Cycling tour around Borgenfjorden – 32 km of culture, nature and flavour
This beautiful circular route of about 32 km takes you through the stunning cultural landscape of Inderøy and Steinkjer. The trail winds between Trøndelag farms, fjord views and historic sites – a perfect combination of nature, culture and local food. Along the way, you’ll pass Mære Church, Gjørv Gård and Gulburet.
Please note: Parts of the route cross private farmyards – show respect and dismount where signposted.

If you arrive by train, we recommend starting at Sparbu Station and finishing at Røra Station

Directions
Start from Straumen and cycle towards Røra. After about 4.9 km on asphalt, turn left at the sign “Røskje/Grandmarka”.
Follow the gravel road for about 3 km, then turn left up towards the farm and Røra Bakery.
At the bakery: Keep left through the farmyard (dismount – private area). Continue on the field road to the next farm by the asphalt road.

Back on asphalt: Turn left. Just after Lorvik Nedre you’ll find a lovely picnic spot.
The road leads down to the fjord and follows the shoreline. After about 5 km: Turn left towards Mære Church (about 2 km uphill).
Pass Mære Agricultural School, then turn left towards Korsen. After about 2 km: Turn left towards Gjørv Gård.
After about 1 km, keep left and pass Gjørv Gård. Follow the road for about 4 km until you reach the main road again.
From the main road, it’s about 6 km of easy cycling back to Straumen. Make sure to stop at Gulburet!

Detours and tips
Gangstad Gårdsysteri: From the junction 2 km after Mære, turn right and follow the road to Fv 761. Cross over and enter Hustadlandet. Follow the road to Gangstad (on the left). Enjoy award-winning cheeses and an ice cream in the courtyard!

Avoid parts of Fv761:
From Bragstadmyra to Verdal Østre: Turn left towards Bragstad farm, follow the road and keep right at the edge of the farmyard.

From Verdal Østre to Straumen: Follow the cultural trail via Bosnes along the shoreline (signposted). Here you can wheel your bike a little to the marina or cycle up to Fv 761.

When you’re back in Straumen

The short Mosvik Loop on Ut.no  | Circular roundtrip in Petter Nordthug’s Realm – Mosvik and Skarnsundet

Start your ride in Mosvik centre and head past Vinje Bruk and the beautiful Mosvik Church. Follow the gravel road until it meets Fv755 towards Leksvik, turn left and enjoy 14 km of stunning views and cultural landscape. You’ll pass idyllic farms – and perhaps some sheep lazily watching from the roadside. Let yourself slow down and savour the nature around you.

After the bends on Fv755, take the first road to the right towards Trongsundet. The gravel road winds downhill to Årningan, where a sign warning of a winter-closed road gives you the feeling of cycling into the wilderness. Now a peaceful ride awaits along Tverråveien, surrounded by the tranquillity of the forest. Here, it’s just birdsong and the whisper of trees – perfect for a break whenever you wish.

When you reach asphalt again, turn right and follow the road towards Framverran and onwards to Skarnsundet. Soon you’ll pass Vestvik Church and Venneshamn. Just before Kjerringvik, stop at the unique rock carvings right by the road – a fascinating glimpse into prehistory. There’s also a lovely picnic spot down by the water.

Continue along the fjord back towards Mosvik centre. If you need a break or a toilet stop, there’s a rest area just after you rejoin Fv755 – a great spot for photos of the impressive Skarnsund Bridge.

Back at Mosvik Brygge, we recommend rounding off your trip with a good dinner – the perfect end to a day in Petter Nordthug’s realm.
