Beaches in Innherred
With its long coastline and many bays and coves, Innherred offers several beautiful beaches and swimming spots. Below you’ll find information about beaches in all five Innherred municipalities. Some are located by idyllic freshwater lakes, while others are situated along the fjord.
INDERØY
Sundsand in Inderøy Municipality Sundsand is a beautiful shallow beach with fine-grained sand, surrounded by grassy areas. The recreational area features a kiosk, restrooms adapted for people with disabilities, a playground, barbecue spots, hiking trails, and three sand volleyball courts.
The beach is located just south of Straumen town centre, a stone’s throw from Saga hotel. There is a walking and cycling path from Straumen that circles all of Sundsand.
SNÅSA
Grønøra About 15 km south of Snåsa town center, by Lake Snåsavatnet. The beach has shallow waters, making it ideal for children. There’s a large parking area and a small building with restrooms. A short, pleasant path leads to the beach, and it’s wheelchair accessible. In the wooded area behind the beach, there are facilities for grilling, with benches and a built-in fire pit.

VERDAL
Havfrua and Ørin On the outskirts of the large industrial area at Ørin, there are sandy beaches at both the northern and southern ends.
South of the industrial zone lies Havfrua and the marina for small boats. The area is equipped with grills and benches.
Within the protected nature reserve at Ørin, right at the mouth of the Verdalselva river, you’ll find Innherred’s most unique beach—at low tide, the water is incredibly shallow for a long distance.
STEINKJER
STEINKJER
Paradisbukta Located 5 kilometers northwest of Steinkjer town center, near Søndre Egge. Follow Bogavegen straight west from the second roundabout after crossing the river bridge on the E6 through Steinkjer.
Paradisbukta is a city-close beach and recreational area. It’s equipped with barbecue spots, seating areas, toilets, showers, changing facilities, and parking. The beach features a gently sloping sandy shoreline, grassy hills, smooth rocks, and plenty of small coves and bays.
The city beach / Bystranda A sandy beach with benches and a trampoline, centrally located on Skippergata on the north side of town, at the mouth of the Steinkjer River—between the Steinkjer railway bridge and Sneppen Bridge. The area is part of the Nordsiapromenaden. There’s good parking and a short walk to a nearby kiosk.
Mountain farm life
Go to the mountain farms and be happy! Taste homemade butter and freshly cooked sour cream porridge, and let the kids run wild. It’s summer and mountain-farm season!
In early June, the first farms in Snåsa open their doors to visitors, and the last ones don’t close until the end of August. All summer long you can experience the truly special mountain-farm life and sample authentic farm products.
The farms are scattered across forests and mountains, where cows graze and milk is processed on site. No milk tanker ever arrives, so everything must be transformed right on the farm. Old and new techniques combine to create an ever-growing range of farm products. Unique mountain-farm specialties made from the milk of happy cows that have grazed on pure, herb-rich pastures.
Relaxing sauna and bubbles
Sauna is known for its health benefits and relaxing effect. At Saga, you and your friends can warm up your autumn-chilled bodies. The sauna experience at Saga is both social and therapeutic—and if you’re brave enough, you can end your session with a refreshing dip in the fjord and something delightful in your glass.
At Ådalsvollen Retreat and Yttervik farm, you and your loved one can retreat and enjoy soothing bubbles outdoors—or steamy heat indoors, in the sauna.
When staying at Koa Camping (Inderøy) or Vegset Camping (Snåsa), you can also enjoy a Aurora sauna experience.

Please remember: campfires are prohibited from April 15 to September 15.
In the outfields, you may pitch a tentno closer than 150 metres from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. You may stay there for up to two nights. If you wish to camp in the same place for a longer period, you must obtain permission from the landowner.
Blåfjella–Skjækerfjella National Park is a favourite destination for those who want to set off on longer camping and fishing trips.
Toilet facilities are an advantage, unless you’re comfortable taking care of such matters in the forest. Remember to bury it properly or take it with you when you leave.
When you’re heading out on a hammock trip, it’s worth remembering that you’ll first need to find a spot with trees – you know, it’s not exactly ideal to end up hanging your hammock on the ground.
It’s also a bonus if the trees aren’t too close together – we don’t want any mid-air collisions either…
Toilet facilities are certainly helpful, unless you’re perfectly happy taking care of things out in the woods. Just remember to bury it properly or take it with you.

- Warm up your sleeping bag with a hot-water bottle (a bottle filled with hot water wrapped in a sock)
- Prepare your morning coffee in a thermos
- Pack tasty food and a good friend
- Afraid of the dark? Bring a string of lights

Snåsa Fjellstyre, Værdalsbruket, Steinkjer Kommuneskoger, Statskog and the Norwegian Trekking Association offer accommodation in 13 cabins within the Blåfjella–Skjækerfjella National Park. You will also find rental cabins with easy access from the road.

There are also opportunities to stay at the mountain farms in Snåsa; Gaundalen and Gjefsjøen are privately owned and inhabited farms, with continuous settlement dating back to the 1600s and 1790s. The owners offer accommodation as well as hunting and fishing.
