Skiing heroes from Innherred

The excellent skiing conditions in Innherred have produced Norwegian ski heroes such as Petter Northug and his brothers Thomas and Even (Mosvik), Sture Sivertsen (Verdal), Terje Langli (Steinkjer), and Eldar Rønning (Levanger), among others. They competed in their childhood ski races at Innherred’s ski stadiums and then won medals in World Ski Championships, Nordic events and/ or winter olympics nordic skiing.

Mountain skiing in Innherred

In Innherred, you can experience the mountains on skis. Embark on mountain tours close to town in groomed trails at Henningvola in Steinkjer or Marka in Leksdal, follow the snowmobile trails in Snåsa to the mountains, or start from Ismenningen Fjellstuggu and head towards DNT Holden mountain farm in Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park.

Norges Geographical Midpoint – The gateway to Skjækerfjella mountains

The ski trip to the midtpoint is a great gateway to Skjækerfjella. The route is 10 kilometres one way. The trail is groomed by snowmobile and serves as an excellent starting point for longer mountain trips, such as a ski mountaineerirn (Skimo) to the summit of Skjækerhatten mountain with an overnight stay at Lågvassbua – the cabin of Steinkjer municipal forests or Skjækerhytta of Snåsa mountain board.
